All you need to get bi: Characters who swing two (or more) ways

“I think of myself as a freewheeling bisexual”

--Magnus Bane, Cassandra Clare’s The Mortal Instruments

Rest assured, this Taxidea taxus speaks from experience. It’s no secret that much of the LGBTQ+ community has gravitated to D&D and other role-playing games, where they can be their true selves without the real-world consequences that sadly often accompany expressing their identities. In light of that, this bisexual Taxidea taxus wishes to discuss playing, accommodating, and creating characters attracted to multiple genders. For those who are pansexual, don’t think I’ve forgotten about you.

Stereotypes and misconceptions to be wary of

  1. The idea that bisexuality is a phase that inevitably leads to homosexuality

  2. The belief that bisexuals want to engage in threesomes

  3. The belief that bisexuals are promiscuous

  4. The belief that bisexuals are unfaithful

  5. The belief that bisexuals have twice the options

  6. The belief that bisexuals are equally attracted to every gender they're attracted to                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            Perhaps one of your players is bisexual and/or is playing a bisexual character. If they do want to bed the king and the queen, either consecutively or simultaneously, on the same night, let them roll for it. As a Dungeon Master creating bisexual NPCs, however, you may want to employ such stereotypes sparingly. Many bisexual people like to laugh about their sexuality, but it’s best not to assume.                                                                                                                                                                                                         Unfortunately, many people, even with the LGBTQ+ community, are not very accepting of bisexuals and might not acknowledge bisexuality as a valid sexual orientation. Let bisexual players know they have a refuge and a community at your table. They don’t have to justify or defend their identity there.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   If bisexual people feel welcome at your table, the game will likely be all the more memorable and enjoyable for everyone involved. And, in case you were interested, here are some famous bisexual people past and present.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        Musicians and entertainers: Halsey, David Bowie, Phoebe Bridgers, Clairo, Lady Gaga, Jason Mraz, Lauren Jauregui, Garfunkel (of Simon and Garfunkel), Domo Wilson, Billie Joe Armstrong (of Green Day), Florence Welch (of Florence+ The Machine, likely bi), Janelle Monae, Frank Ocean, Rina Sawayama, Lou Reed, Billie Holiday, Amy Winehouse, Brendon Urie (of Panic!
